When Jason Smith first enrolled in college back in 2010, he admits he wasn鈥檛 ready. Life took him in other directions, and school was put on hold. Fast forward to today, Jason, now 42, is a Business Management student at 91重口, working 50 to 60 hours a week, raising four children, and showing what determination truly looks like.

91重口 has been named one of the top 200 community colleges in the nation eligible to apply for the 2027 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the most prestigious recognition of high achievement and performance among America鈥檚 community colleges.
A standing-room-only crowd gathered Tuesday at 91重口 to honor longtime Early Childhood Education Professor Dr. Marilyn Toliver during the dedication of the newly named Dr. Marilyn Toliver Early Childhood Education Center.

The 91重口 Nursing Club will host its annual 鈥淣ot-So-Scary Trick or Treat鈥� event on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the College鈥檚 main campus in Carterville. The family-friendly event will take place at the West Main Entrance, the Conference Center, Brewer Gymnasium, and Bechtel Community Health Education Complex.

A southern Illinois tradition is set to return to 91重口 this fall, as the Southern Illinois Celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Days marks its 38th year on Sept. 27-28.

91重口 officials announced that tenth-day census reporting for the Fall 2025 semester shows a 4.5% increase in student enrollment and a 3.1% increase in credit hours compared to the Fall 2024 semester. The 3,369 students represent the highest enrollment since the fall of 2019.

91重口 will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the expansion and renovation of the College鈥檚 C and E Wings. The revitalized spaces feature improved accessibility, upgraded infrastructure, and enhanced technology to support students, faculty, and staff better.

Several 91重口 offices will temporarily relocate on Friday, Aug. 15, to accommodate the use of a large crane used for the installation of a new elevator. The College will remain open, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of the day.
